Arktisen alueen painoarvo on kasvanut kylmän sodan vastakkainasettelun päätyttyä ja nyt arktinen alue on maailmanpolitiikan tärkeä teema. Arktinen alue on Suomen kannalta nyt erityisen ajankohtainen, sillä Suomi aloittaa kaksivuotisen puheenjohtajakautensa Arktisen neuvoston puheenjohtajamaana toukokuussa. Arktinen neuvosto on kahdeksan arktisen valtion - Islanti, Kanada, Norja, Ruotsi, Suomi, Tanska, Venäjä ja Yhdysvallat - muodostama yhteistyöfoorumi.

Kuulin juuri, että Radio Rockin aamuohjelmassa juontajat olivat kertoneet Greenpeacen aktivistien mielenosoituksesta Öölannin eteläpuolella Ruotsissa. Aktivistit olivat nousseet suomalaiselle Nordica-jäänmurtajalle jo toisen kerran muutaman päivän sisällä – ensimmäinen actionhan tapahtui vappupäivänä, kun alus oli vielä köysissä Helsingin Hietaniemessä. Radiojuontajat olivat käyttäneet aktivisteista sanaa terroristi, eikä asiayhteyttä tai mielenosoituksen motiivia ollut sen kummemmin kuulijoille avattu. Kuka tahansa, joka pyrkii häiritsemään bisnestä, on siis terroristi.
