Siviilipalvelusselvitys julkaistiin kesällä ja sen uutisointi oli valitettavan yksipuolista ja suppeata. Esille ei esimerkiksi nostettu sitä, että sivarit ja heidän esimiehensä ovat keskimäärin varsin tyytyväisiä sivareiden tekemään työhön.

Aseistakieltäytyjäliiton jokasyksyinen kutsuntakampanja sai tänä vuonna Helsingissä poikkeuksellisen näyttävän alun. Varhain ensimmäisen kutsuntapäivän aamuna parikymmenpäinen klovnijoukko asteli Brahen kentän varjoista pääkaupungin kutsuntapaikkana jo vuosikymmeniä toimineen suomenkielisen työväenopiston eteen. Rumpuja paukuttaneiden klovnien sotaharjoitus jatkui puolisen tuntia tiukasti maahan katselevien upseerien ja hämmentyneenä naureskelevien uusien asevelvollisten saapuessa hiljakseen kutsuntapaikalle.

Britannian Tridentit nielisivät 65 miljardia puntaa »

Britannian Trident-ydinasejärjestelmä vanhenee noin vuonna 2025. Viimeisten parin vuoden aikana maassa on käyty koko ajan kiihtyvää keskustelua ydinaseiden tulevaisuudesta: korvataanko Tridentit uudella ohjelmalla, pidennetäänkö niiden käyttöaikaa vai luopuuko Britannia kokonaan ydinaseista Tridentien myötä?

Uuden ohjelman kustannuksiksi on yleisesti arvioitu noin 25 miljardia puntaa ja sen elinikäisiksi kustannuksiksi puolustusministeriöstä saatujen lukujen mukaan noin 65 miljardia.
