Syyrian pitkään jatkuneessa sisällissodassa käydään taistelua monella rintamalla. Pohjoisen kurdialueilla taistelee monia ryhmittymiä, ja mukana on myös tuhansia naisia. Kurdinaisten sota on taistelua islamilaista fundamentalismia, syrjintää, patriarkaalisia yhteiskuntarakenteita sekä kurdien alisteista asemaa vastaan. Vaikka ISIS on myös heidän suuri vihollisensa, on kyseessä pitkään jatkunut taistelu. Lännen näkökulma ylenkatsoo feminismin historiaa Lähi-idässä sekä kurdien naisasialiikettä. Naistaistelijoiden kamppailussa ei ole kyse vain taistelusta ISISiä vastaan.
