Oikeiden tuotteiden ja palvelujen valinta on aloittavalle sijoittajalle tärkeää. Eettisellä sijoittajalla on siihen useita vaihtoehtoja: suorat osakesijoitukset, sijoitusrahastot, joukkovelkakirjalainat, ja indeksilainat. Lisäksi on olemassa liuta muitakin vaihtoehtoja, kuten erilaisia johdannaisia. Johdannaiset ovat kuitenkin lähinnä treidareita, eli ammatikseen sijoittavia varten.

Eettinen toiminta ja sijoittaminen sopivat lähtökohtaisesti huonosti yhteen. Kuten Björn Wahlroos taannoin kommentoi: yrityksillä ei ole moraalia, vaan ainoastaan sen työntekijöillä on moraali. Osakeyhtiölaissa lukee, että yrityksen tehtävä on tuottaa voittoa. Kun tähän lisätään se, että sijoitustoiminnan tarkoituksena on maksimoida sijoittajan saama tuotto sijoittajan riskinsietokyky huomioiden, tavoitteenasettelu on valmis.
